If you’ve walked past the Childcare Room at the South Salt Lake Community Center recently, you might have noticed a little extra magic in the air.
South Salt Lake Arts and Promise South Salt Lake is proud to announce our latest commissioned piece: "A World in Bloom" by local artist Trevor Dahl. Trevor has completely transformed the walls, turning the room into a vibrant, flowing mountain nature-scape that feels just like stepping into the pages of your favorite children's book.
What we love most about this piece is that it invites kids to engage. It’s not just art on a wall, but it’s a living, breathing activity. Next time you visit with your little ones, see if you can solve these mural mysteries together:
Where is the ladybug hiding with exactly 4 spots?
How many raindrops can you count?
How many eggs are tucked safely in the nest?
How many berries are growing on the tree?
Trevor brought a deeply personal perspective to this project, drawing on his years of experience as an early-childhood Montessori teacher. He intentionally designed the mural with bold shapes, relatable animals, and loose, hand-drawn lines to keep a sense of genuine human connection in the room.
He shared a story with us from the Utah Arts Festival that really captures the heart of his work. While standing near his booth, Trevor overheard a child looking at one of his paintings say to his mom, "It’s not just a silly piece of art—it actually makes me think about what I want to paint."
That is exactly the energy "A World in Bloom" brings to our Community Center. By using simplified, welcoming imagery, Trevor has given our youngest residents (and their caregivers!) a way to recognize symbols, imagine their own stories, and feel inspired to create. He even carefully color-matched the mural to the room's toys, carpets, and the trees outside to make the whole space feel like one cohesive, imaginative environment.
We are so grateful to Trevor for bringing life, wonder, and playfulness to this space, and we can't wait for you to experience it.
Come See for Yourself!
